Abstract

Smart cities integrate digital networks, Internet of Things (IoT) systems, data-driven governance, and citizen-centric services. As global tourism expands, smart cities are increasingly incorporating tourism as a fundamental pillar of urban planning. This study examines how smart city frameworks integrate tourism experiences through mobility systems, digital infrastructures, smart attractions, sustainability measures, and real-time data analytics.

Using case studies from Singapore, Barcelona, Dubai, Seoul, and Copenhagen, along with survey data from 1,720 tourists, interviews with 30 city innovation officers, and analysis of 50 smart-city masterplans, the study identifies key integration models. Results show that smart cities enhance tourist satisfaction, improve efficiency, support economic diversification, and reduce environmental pressures. However, privacy concerns, digital exclusion, technological congestion, and data interoperability issues remain significant challenges.
